This inset allows counters to be set, reset, saved, restored, etc,
both in the LyX GUI and in the output; optionally, the effect can be
limited to the GUI. Of course, LaTeX provides means for doing all of
these things, so they could previously be done with ERT, as far as
the output is concerned. But there was no mechanism for manipulating
counters in the GUI and none for other output formats.
The current spelling is not strictly wrong, but flagged as unusual or
historical by some authorities. It is also found fault with many
spell checkers. Thus we decided to move to the more standard "-ible"
form once and for all.
See #10678 for discussion
This part covers the most tricky part: the internal naming.
Translations and layouts will follow.
This will all also all be backported to 2.3.x, for the sake of backwards
compatibility (cherry-picking).
in updateBuffer().
This is in response to a reported crash. See

Commit af381a2f addressed the crash, and is worth doing anyway. But
this also makes sense.
Also adds a flag to tell us whether we need to recalculate the
relevant information. In some cases, there is no need to do so
more than once. (Note that, with the existing code, we *never*
recalculate, which would have given rise to bugs.)
Addressing #10481.
This patch adds the new 'needauth' option for converters launching
external programs that are capable of running arbitrary code on behalf
of the user. These converters won't be run unless the user gives explicit
authorization, which is asked on-demand when the converter is about to
be run (question is not asked if the file is cached and calling the
converter is not needed).
The user prompt has a 3rd button so that he/she's not prompted again
for (any converter over) the same document (identified through
buffer->absFileName()).
Two preference options are added:
lyxrc.use_converter_needauth_forbidden disables any converter with
the 'needauth' option, which is meant to force user to an explicit
action via the preferences pane, before being able to use advanced
converters that can potentially bring security threats;
lyxrc.use_converter_needauth enables prompting the user for 'needauth'
converters, or bypasses the check if not enabled, falling back to the
previous behavior.
So, the first option is for maximum security, the second is for
maximum usability.
This is a mechanical replacement. For now it seems that unique_ptrs are
essentially used for exception-safety. More could certainly be done to clarify
pointer ownership in general.
This is the same as the parbreak separator and is represented on screen
as the old parbreak. Old parbreak separators are converted to latexpar
separators when they are used for introducing blank lines in the
latex output rather than for separating environments.
Instead, parbreak separators are now represented on screen by a
double line. In essence, latexpar and parbreak separators produce
the same output but are represented differently on screen.
The context menu does not account for latexpar separators and only
"true" separators can be turned each into the other one.
It is now possible opening documents that where manually moved to a
different location after they were saved and still produce an output.
Indeed, (hopefully) all needed included files are now still found.
When the moved document is saved again, all paths are accordingly updated.
Of course, for this to work, a document has to be saved in Format 490,
at least.
As an example, after converting the user guide to the last format, it can
be copied anywhere and opened without the need of adapting the paths of
included files or moving them to a proper place.
There is one glitch I am aware of. When moving a child document (but not
the master) the path to the master is correctly updated but it won't be
recognized as such. This is because LyX checks that the parent actually
includes this document but, of course, being the parent document not
touched, it appears not including this child. Anyway, it will also occur
when saving the child to a different location and the user is warned
on the terminal about this fact when the moved child is loaded.
However, there is no problem when it is the master that has been moved.
The algorithm used for breaking a paragraph in LaTeX export is changed
for avoiding spurious blank lines causing too much vertical space.
This change is tied to the introduction of a new inset (with two
different specializations) helping in either outputing LaTeX paragraph
breaks or separating environments in LyX. Both of the above goals were
previously achieved by the ---Separator--- layout and can now be
accomplished by the new inset in a more natural way. As an example,
after leaving an environment by hitting the Return key for two times,
a third return automatically inserts a parbreak inset, which is
equivalent to the old separator layout, i.e., it also introduces a
blank line in the output. If this blank line is not wanted, the
parbreak separator can be changed to a plain separator by a right
click of the mouse. Of course, an environment can still be separated
by the following one by using the Alt+P+Return shortcut (or the
corresponding menu key), but now the plain separator inset is used
instead of the old separator layout, such that no blank line occurs in
the LaTeX output.
Old documents are converted such that the LaTeX output remains unchanged.
As a result of this conversion, the old separator layout is replaced by
the new parbreak inset, which may also appear in places where the old
algorithm was introducing blank lines while the new one is not.
Note that not all blank lines were actually affecting the LaTeX output,
because a blank line is simply ignored by the TeX engine when it occurs
in the so called "vertical mode" (e.g., after an alignment environment).
The old ---Separator--- layout is now gone and old layout files using it
are also automatically converted.
Round trip conversions between old and new format should leave a document
unchanged. This means that the new behavior about paragraph breaking is
not "carried back" to the old format. Indeed, this would need introducing
special LaTeX commands in ERT that would accumulate in roundtrip
conversions, horribly cluttering the document. So, when converting a
modified document to old formats, the LaTeX output may slightly differ in
vertical spacing if the document is processed by an old version of LyX.
In other words, forward compatibility is guaranteed, but not backwards.
Currently only basic functionality (our math-tipa functionality plus multipar input). Further enhancements (such as proper unicode input and a specific toolbar) are planned. DocBook and XHTML output also need to be audited.
The lyx2lyx reversion routine surely can be improved (help appreciated), and I don't know tex2lyx enough to handle this file format change.

* Bug fix and clean up InsetFloat parameter handling: this is still not very clean as the float type is not really a parameter still... The solution is to defer the float type reading to the actual inset reading, not its creation.

allievated now, but there still can be some corner case.

The basic idea was to reuse the corresponding text space inset in the same
fashion as is already done for references. The dialog displays a different
selection for math than for text. If wanted, the additional spaces could
also be enabled for text, but that would be a file format change.
Constructs like \hspace{\mylengthvariable} that are not supported are
treated by the math parser as ERT as before.
For reasons I don't know the context menu does not work, but this is not so
important IMHO (since a left click opens the dialog).
