13e42a8c73 Introduce groups for graphics insets. That includes: 
- GuiGraphics dialog field for setup new groups.
- Graphics context menu for assigning to certain group.
- Fileformat change for groupId field in Graphics inset.
- Undo mechanism added to inset-apply, for catching changes
  in preference dialog.
- Qt designer 4.4 used now.

022ea0feb6 Fix part of bug 4775. We need to search here only when the user requests it, and not try to do "search as you go". This is too slow, even on fast machines, if you have more than a handful of entries. 
I've also added some tooltips to direct people to the keyboard shortcuts.

8a69ffd3bf Complete the removal of the embedding stuff. Maybe. It's hard to be sure we got everything, but this does compile, and it seems to work at least reasonably well. Any problems should of course be reported to the list. 
For the record, this developer is sorry that the problems with this code were not noticed much earlier. It's not fun to do so much work and then have it all reverted.

0d5e1782f0 Use a custom model + QListView instead of QListWidget in the Symbols 
dialog. Functionality is unchanged. 
Populating the 'All Symbols' panel for utf8 files is around 5s.
Not nice, but bearable. There's still room for improvement.

473091fb82 * center the line in the layout category headers in the middle of the lowercase chars 
* some messages for the statusbar
    * configuration option for grouping of the layouts
    * put category headers above the first item of each category in the
      layout list.
      To avoid scrolling we have to sneak in space for the headers.
      So we tweak this value accordingly. It's not nice, but the
      only possible way it seems.

    Note 1: Because QComboBox uses the "first row's height * rowCount" to
    estimate the height of the popup, we have to fake some extra pixel
    lines to avoid scrolling because of the extra space taken by the
    headers. This is a hack, but I don't see a better way to establish that.

    Note 2: An alternative implementation is to insert headers as real list
    items. But it seems that QListView cannot skip them in cursor
    navigation then. So we stick to the upper approach.

932998494b Embedding: add option \extra_embedded_files to buffer params. This increase 
LyX file format to 318. The Embedded files panel of document settings has
been simplied, with working add and remove buttons. Note that bease BufferParams
lacks buffer path information, extraEmbeddedFiles are vector<string>, instead
of EmbeddedFileList (as previously planned).

- added text width control
- added GUI preferences & menu & shortcut

Known problems:
- Outliner in Mac is seeking some Mac devie to fix (see hints here:
  http://www.mail-archive.com/lyx-devel@lists.lyx.org/msg135382.html ) 
- Toolbars visibility is shared between windows (views)
  (needs toolbars overhaul).
- Adding new tab items does not reflect fullscreen mode
  (i.e. margins and tabbar get visible)

8e212b98b4 * optional old-style editing mode for macros with a parameter list. 
* combobox in the preferences dialog to choose the macro editing mode of choice.

The reason for the three choices (inline box, inline without box,
list) is that it seems that there are at least these three groups of
people, and each of them is very strong about their opinion what that
the best mode is. So here there are all of them, pick your favourite.

0a701fb254 * Option to make macro editing less "noisy" by hiding the grey box with the 
macro name when the cursor is inside. The downside of the coin is that
you have to look into the statusbar to see which macro is used. But
some people prefer that than having the slight size change of macros
when the cursor enters.

604c1148ea Factorize general code out of GuiDialog and into the base Dialog class. This is now possible thanks to the moving of Dialog.{cpp,h} to qt4/. Any dialog must inherit QWidget within Qt so it is safe to use Dialog::asQWidget() method (which is similar to dynamic casting). 
* GuiDialog now inherits DialogView. GuiDialog is only there to bring the ButtonController archaeological interface; any new dialog should inherit DialogView and any new dock widget should inherit DockView.

e73f8040fe Use QSettings for session management of windows geometry. This commit also removes the possibility to fix the window dimensions in the RC file. Instead we have now a single check box for enabling/disabling geometry session management.

0a7567ce3b - add entry to FORMATS file for Stefan's format change (Richards to 296 change is still not correctly listed) 
- add support for hyerlink targets - fileformat changed
  (For Hyperlink.cpp I still need help to get rid of the strings and chars and use docstrings and char_type instead!)

Can anyone please open the changed Hyperlink.ui with a Qt 4.2 designer or below, save it and commit? Thanks. (Otherwise you cannot compile it.)
