The idea behind this patch is to make real key-value support for InsetCommand parameters possible. This should be particularly useful for the listings version of InsetInclude, though we would need some kind of UI for it before it would really be helpful. (See below for some thoughts.) This doesn't substantially change anything else, though some things do get re-arranged a bit.
Basically, the idea is this. First, we introduce a whole range of parameter types: Normal LaTeX optional and required parameters; ones for LyX's internal use (like embed); and finally, in connection with keyval, ones that represent keys and ones that represent optional and required arguments where the keyval stuff will appear. (I'm assuming here that there will always be exactly one of those, and that it will accept only keyval-type material.) The parameters themselves are stored in a map, so it's really only the output routines that need to care about the different types of parameters.
Regarding the frontend, it seems to me that something like the following would work:
(i) scan the parameter list for LATEX_KEY type parameters
(ii) the dialog will have a series of lines, each of which has a combo box listing the acceptable keys and a QLineEdit for entering its value, as well as a "delete" button of some sort for removing this key and its value
(iii) there should be an "add line" button to add a new line, activated only when all other lines are filled with values
Probably not even too hard.

I've left the typedef in TextClassPtr.h. At the moment, it's kind of silly. But I've left it mostly because it helps to identify where the TextClass's stored in the TextClassBundle are used, and maybe it'd be worth having some sort of strong typedef like the one for BaseClassIndex here.
I need to check whether the textClass_ member of InsetCollapsable is needed now. I think not.

Sorry, Andre, but this broke not only the modules stuff but the general handling of TextClasses. I'm not opposed to doing this sort of thing, but it's going to be a little more complicated. I'll do it when I get a bit of time, or I can explain what the issue is here if you want to do it.

This turns out not to work, because par.forceEmptyLayout() and par.useEmptyLayout() always return false here, because par.inInset() always returns a null pointer, because the paragraph's inset hasn't yet been set when Text::readParagraph() gets called from Text::read() gets called from InsetText::read(). The solution is to set the paragraph's inset when it is created, which means passing a pointer to the various read() routines along the way.

The basic idea has two parts. First, we hard code an "empty layout"
(called PlainLayout, for want of a better name) in TextClass and read it
before doing anything else. It can therefore be customized by classes,
if they want---say, to make it left-aligned. Second, InsetText's are
divided into three types: (i) normal ones, that use the "default" layout
defined by the text class; (ii) highly restrictive ones, such as ERT and
(not quite an inset) table cells, which demand the empty layout; (iii)
middling ones, which default to an empty layout and use the empty layout
in place of the default. (This is so we don't get the same problem we
had with ERT in e.g. footnotes.) The type of inset is signaled by new
methods InsetText::forceEmptyLayout() and InsetText::useEmptyLayout().
(The latter might better be called: useEmptyLayoutInsteadOfDefault(),
but that's silly.) The old InsetText::forceDefaultParagraphs() has been
split into these, plus a new method InsetText::allowParagraphCustomization().
A lot of the changes just adapt to this change.
The other big change is in GuiToolbar: We want to show LyXDefault and
the "default" layout only when they're active.
There are a handful of places where I'm not entirely sure whether we
should be using forceEmptyLayout or !allowParagraphCustomization() or
both. The InsetCaption is one of these. These places, and some others,
are marked with FIXMEs, so I'd appreciate it if people would search
through the patch and let me know whether these need changing. If they
don't, the FIXMEs can be deleted.

This is the first patch in a series meant to remove LTR bias from the code.
Currently, there are many places in the code where "right" and "left" are used,
but where we actually mean "forward" and "backwards" --- which is the same
thing in LTR text, but not in RTL/Bidi text.

Design goal: Allow the use of layout "modules", which are to LaTeX packages as layout files are to LaTeX document classes. Thus, one could have a module that defined certain character styles, environments, commands, or what have you, and include it in various documents, each of which uses a different document class, without having to modify the layout files themselves. For example, a theorems.module could be used with article.layout to provide support for theorem-type environments, without having to modify article.layout itself, and the same module could be used with book.layout, etc.
This patch adds the backend. The ModuleList class holds a list of the available modules, which are retrieved from lyxmodules.lst, itself generated by configure.py. There are two LFUNs available: modules-clear and module-add, which do the obvious thing; you can test by typing these into the minibuffer, along with the name of one of the available modules: URL (a CharStyle), Endnote (a Custom Inset), and---with the spaces---End To Foot (View>LaTeX and look at the user preamble), which are themselves in lib/layouts. There are some others, too, that allow theorems to be added to classes like article and book.
The GUI will come next.
Issues: (i) The configure.py script could be improved. It'd be nice, for example, if it tested for the presence of the LaTeX packages a particular module needs. But this would mean re-working the LaTeX script, and I don't know how to do that. Note that at present, the packages are ignored. This will change shortly. (ii) I've used std::string in LyXModule, following what seemed to be a precedent in TextClass. If some of these should be docstrings, please let me know, and I'll change them. (iii) There is at present no distinction between LaTeX and DocBook modules. Should there be? That is: Should there be modules that are available when the document class is a LaTeX class and others that are available only when it is DocBook? Or should there just be one set of modules? Each module can of course indicate for what it is suitable in its description.

This first patch does some reworking of the infrastructrue. We need to distinguish between the TextClass that a particular document is using and the layout of that document, since modules, in particular, can modify the layout. The solution adopted here is to add a TextClass pointer to BufferParams, which will hold the layout. The layout itself is then constructed from the TextClass the document is using. At present, this is completely trivial, but that will change when modules are added.
The pointer in question is a boost::shared_ptr. This is needed because CutAndPaste saves a copy of the layout with each cut or copied selection. We cannot assume the selection vanishes when the document is closed, so there are two options: (i) keep a list of all the layouts that have ever been used by any document; (ii) used some kind of smart pointer. The latter seems preferable, as the former would waste memory. More importantly, the use of a smart pointer allows modules to be modified on disk and then reloaded while LyX is running, and it will eventually allow the same for layout files.

The changes are essentially of three types.
First, the std::maps previously used here for storing BibTeX data have become full-fledged classes and so what were previously just a bunch of functions have now become methods of these new classes. This leads to a lot of minor changes in other files, to adapt to the new signature. The changes in insets/ are mostly of this kind.
Second, there are some slightly more substantial changes in src/insets/InsetBibtex.cpp. We now store lists of the field names and entry types that have been used.
Finally, there are the changes to the citation UI. These are mostly straightforward, though adding the new functionality exposed some inadequacies in the previous code that also had to be fixed.
One other change: BibTeX keys are now docstring. This solves some Unicode issues.

all the data. The data structures are defined in src/Biblio_typedefs.h, and
the main changes are to the parser code in src/insets/InsetBibtex.cpp.

will align the paragraph right, leaving spacing, etc, as they were, whereas
paragraph-params-apply \align right
will align the paragraph right but also reset all other parameters to defaults. Note, by the way, that this means that
paragraph-params-apply
sets everything to default.
Some new arguments have also been introduced. These are:
\indent
\indent-toggle
\spacing default
Of course, none of these are found in valid LyX files, but they are useful in menu bindings, etc.

This is all preparatory for a more substantial re-working of the BibTex code,
which should follow shortly.
