Following a request by Günter, we consider the document fonts (only rm
for now) when selecting an appropriate font encoding.
See #9741
The new default font encoding setting "auto" does
* consider the font encoding needed by the language(s), which can now
have fallback alternatives
* Consider which font encoding is provided by the document font
Thus, cm now will result in OT1 fontenc, if the language can deal with
that.
The font_enc pref is ditched: it is no longer needed.
The automatism is still very basic and is subject to extension.
File format and prefs format change.
Use the command as defined by Babel. This allows us to use the (more
advanced) Babel command if provided instead of rolling our own.
I add a dummy file format change in case it turns out we need to
do something here for old documents (e.g. with user preamble definitions)
Don't insert empty line when translating QuoteInsets to literal
quotes.
Fix regexp pattern in re/convert_dashligatures.
Adjust logic in re/convert_dash(ligatur)es.
* use unicode.transform() instead of loop over replacements
* telling variable names
* remove trailing whitespace
* documentation update
* don't set use_ligature_dashes if both dash types are found
* remove spurious warning, normalize indentation, and use
Python idioms in revert_baselineskip()
Fix cases where lyx2lyx adds changes with every round cycle
uncovered by recent ctest change.
Add optional `delete` argument to parser_tools.get*value():
If True, delete the matching line.
More efficient "allowbreak" con/reversion.
New lyx2lyx parser tools find_complete_lines() (replaces find_slice),
del_complete_lines(), and find_across_lines(). Default value 0
for start argument in utility functions.
Rework the implementation of dash-conversion.
Fix failure of revert_dashes() found by lyx2lyx ctests
using an efficient function to find a given sequence of lines
in a list of lines.
Some optimizations using Python idioms instead of C-like code.
Insert ligature breaks between hyphens where
they are separate in 2.2 but ligated by TeX in 2.1.
This fixes output with LyX 2.1 and prevents -- and --- becoming
en and em dash in the LyX source after a round-trip to 2.1
and back.
Solves lyx2lyx ctest failures with a warning about
possible line-break changes.
Code is by default rendered as typewriter and should be treated
similar:
In text marked up as code, -- or --- is typically part of a
command (e.g. "lyx --help" or "x--") and not a transliteration
for en dash, see #10961.
This is already handled so for text in typewriter font
(see Text.cpp:500).
The current spelling is not strictly wrong, but flagged as unusual or
historical by some authorities. It is also found fault with many
spell checkers. Thus we decided to move to the more standard "-ible"
form once and for all.
See #10678 for discussion
This part only covers the usage in comments and the like. More to follow.
This will all also all be backported to 2.3.x, for the sake of backwards
compatibility (cherry-picking).
Update the listings inset to optionally use the minted package
(instead of the listings one) for typesetting code listings.
Only one of the two packages can be used in a document, but it
is possible to switch packages without issues if the used options
are the same. If a switch is made and the options differ, one needs
to manually adjust them if they were entered in the advanced options
tab, or apply again the gui settings.
Note that minted requires the -shell-escape option for the latex
backend and the installation of additional software (python pygments).
Do not treat them as non-verbatim in conversion. This keeps math $...$
as math.
There will be problems with characters that are outside the given
encoding, but as long as there is no way to convert them to the
respective LaTeX macros from within lyx2lyx, I don't know how to solve
this.
New special character to mark an optional line break
without inserting a hyphen (ZWSP). See #10585.
Corresponds to the Unicode character U+200B ZERO WIDTH SPACE
This isn't a “space”. It is an invisible character that can be used
to provide line break opportunities.
http://unicode.org/notes/tn27/
While the literal Unicode character can be used in the LyX
file, it is invisible in the GUI.
For visible feedback, the patch adds a new special character "allowbreak".
The small mark is inspired by LibereOffice.
A tooltip is added.
This patch fixes lyx2lyx running on python 3 for those systems
where the default encoding is not UTF-8, since open by default
uses the default system encoding.
Remove the duplicated \# -*- coding: utf-8 -*-
lines that show in the third line.
As far as I know they are not used, the first line though is used
by python and text editors (emacs, vi & co) to get the file encoding.
That will also work in the second lines (because of the shebang convention)
but not in other lines.
Remove trailing whitespaces.
- Mention the new buffer parameter in development/FORMAT
- Assure that lyx2lyx generates the same output obtained when saving
a converted document from within lyx
- Don't require any action when converting a document created with
lyx 2.2 in order to assure unchanged output (thanks José for the hint)
This commit fixes the regression introduced in 2.2 about the
output of en- and em-dashes. In 2.2 en- and em-dashes are output as
the \textendash and \textemdash macros when using TeX fonts, causing
changed output in old documents and also bugs (for example, #10490).
Now documents produced with older versions work again as intended,
while documents produced with 2.2 can be made to produce the exact
same output by simply checking "Don't use ligatures for en-and
em-dashes" in Document->Settings->Fonts.
When exporting documents using TeX fonts to earlier versions, in order
to avoid changed output, a zero-width space character is inserted after
each en/em-dash if dash ligatures are allowed. These characters are
removed when reloading documents with 2.3, so that they don't accumulate.
This adds support for the chapterbib package, but also adds ways to
produce this sort of multibib with biblatex and bibtopic (which are
both incompatible with chapterbib).
File format change.
File format change.
This allows for the relevant InsetCommand-based dialogs (such as
citation text before/after, Bibitem label, hyperlink name etc.)
to provide both the input of verbatim code or text that is transformed
to proper LaTeX code.
Some dialogs (Nomencl, Href) already had some methods (although they
could not be toggled), which are now centralized and streamlined.
The initial work of this patch has been done by Georg Baum (see
http://www.lyx.org/trac/attachment/ticket/2751/x.diff)
Fixes: #2751, #8227.
These are biblatex-specific multicite commands that allow for multiple
pre- and postnotes, as in:
\cites(pre)(post)[pre1][post1]{key1}[pre2][post2]{key2}...
with an optional general pre- and postnote, which applies to the whole
list (like [][] in normal cite commands) and an optional pre- and
postnotes for each item, so that pagination can actually be specified in
multi-cite references, as in:
(cf. Miller 2015, 2; furthermore Smith 2013, 23-23; Jenkins 2012, 103,
also refer to chapter 6 in this book)
See the biblatex manual, sec. 3.8.3., for details.

inset.
If the reference is "sec:mysec", then this will output just "mysec".
This is what is needed, e.g., to use refstyle's range commands, e.g.,
\secrangeref{mysec1}{mysec2}
You *cannot* use:
\secrangeref{sec:mysec1}{sec:mysec2}
even if those are the actual labels.
Eventually, I'd like to add native support for this, but I'm a bit
frightened of trying to make the reference dialog support multiple
selections.
We use the more comprehensive cochineal package if available and fall
back to the crimson package, if not.
Math support is provided by means of newtxmath

* f <<french>> (``inner quotation'')
* i <<frenchin>> (<<inner quotation>>) ["in" = Imprimerie Nationale]
* r <<russian>> (,,inner quotation``)
Rename "french" to "swiss"
Also rename "single/double" to "secondary/primary" ("inner/outer" in
the UI) and "left/right" to "opening/closing". Note that the inset

- fileformat change
- I could not update the tex2lyx test files because of bug #10440
- maybe the lyx2lyx routine could be improved but since a document can also begin with another layout than "Standard" I could not use the lyx2lyx function put_cmd_in_ert
File format change. On format reversion, we need to put some extra code
in the local layout that emulates the 2.3 behavior.
Simply Input'ing the respective layouts is unfortunately not enough,
due to the insertion order.
See #9977
Add get_bool_value to parser_tools to be used in other places.
Make the upgrade convertion seamless from lyx writing the file (regarding

is output when a branch is NOT activated. Fixes bug #7698.
At the moment, inversion is controlled through the branch settings
dialog. There is no provision for inserting inverted insets directly,
or for changing them from the context menu. Both of these could be
done, of course. The latter would need LFUN_BRANCH_TOGGLE_INVERTED.
The external date inset was implemented as a demonstrator for external insets
in general. It was never intended for production code. Now that we have several
external insets defined we do not need the demonstrator anymore. This fixes
bugs #4398 and #9948.
Previously the commandline arguments were processed in an operating system
dependent encoding if running under python 2. Now they are converted to
unicode during the parsing, using the more modern argpase instead of optparse.
The individual conversion methods do no longer need to know anything about
commandline encoding. This fixes a bug similar to #10218 if running under
python 2 which I probably introduced during the python 3 conversion.
The LyX class works now with python 3. Certain file format conversions may
still fail (convert_multiencoding() is a hot candidate), but this will need
to be fixed in the individual modules.
This is the same as the parbreak separator and is represented on screen
as the old parbreak. Old parbreak separators are converted to latexpar
separators when they are used for introducing blank lines in the
latex output rather than for separating environments.
Instead, parbreak separators are now represented on screen by a
double line. In essence, latexpar and parbreak separators produce
the same output but are represented differently on screen.
The context menu does not account for latexpar separators and only
"true" separators can be turned each into the other one.
The term LongTable has been deprecated and moreover the renaming makes the interface easier to the eye.
File format updated to 507. (conversion based on jamatos patch)
Layout format updated to 60.
tex2ylx tests updated.
Document EmbeddedObjects.lyx has been updated.
* Increase LyX format
* New function convert_info_insets in lyx2lyx_tools.py
Use this function in the future for future updates of info insets
* Convert "inset-modify tabular" to "tabular-feature" in info insets
* Remove icon naming hack regarding "inset-modify tabular"
Increment LyX format to 504.
With this new parameter, the user can indicate that some other parameters that
are frequently switched must not be recorded in the file (as if they were a
setting specific to the user or transient, rather than a document setting). This
will play nicer with version control systems.
See the discussion, e.g.:
http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.editors.lyx.devel/157824/focus=157993 (third
solution mentioned)
TODO:
* The interface remains to be set up. We cannot change this setting from LyX
for now.
* If save_transient_properties is false, we should read the user setting as a
per-user-per-document (session) setting (e.g. like the cursor position).
* Once the above is done, we can treat \justification the same way (but it would
be even better if \justification was moved to lyxrc).
These were using lyx2latex, assuming the result can be used in verbatim
insets as is, which is not the case (mostly due to \\backslash).
A new lyx2verbatim function is now used instead. Also, ERT insets are
dissolved in the gloss reversion process.
patch. Also fix some escaping problems (\end instead of \\end).
My testing revealed some other problems with this routine: stray
\noindent tags popping up here and there. I don't have time to fix
it right now but will try to come back to it.
lyx2lyx did not yet know about /systemlyxdir/ and set \origin to the path
where my git tree lives instead. This path is not usable except on my machine,
so better write something more usable instead.
This is a special command line switch of lyx2lyx, so it does not interfere
with normal usage. I did not try to deduce the systemlyxdir from lyx2lyx to
be on the safe side.
This is one part of bug 9744: If you toggle between TeX fonts and non-TeX
fonts, the settings of the other choice are no longer thrown away, but stored
and re-activated if you switch back. Most parts of the patch are purely
mechanical (duplicating some BufferParams members), the only non-mechanical
change is in the GUI logic.
then just perform a null conversion. This seems better than aborting
with an error. I can imagine a script that converted all files in a
certain directory to format 498, and you don't want it to be an error
if one of them is already 498.
Prior to this, what lyx2lyx would do is convert to the lowest format
in the current version. So, e.g., asked to convert 498 to 498 it would
convert to 474. That is obviously wrong.
This brings the external inset on par with the graphics insets as far as the
clipping option is concerned. The graphicxs package supports both: A bounding
box without units (which means that bp ia assumed), and a bounding box with
units, so we can simply output the values including the units.
Being able to compile document with zipped .eps files was a useful feature of
the graphicxs package 20 years ago, but the LyX support is no longer relevant:
- The flag is ignored if preview is on
- If pdflatex is used then uncompressing happens during the compilation anyway
- If set, the flag prevents LyX from issuing proper error messages if
something with the image is wrong
- For hard disk capacities from 20 years ago not uncompressing is a useful
feature, but for current hard disk capacities it does not matter
- The external inset does not have it, and if we want to merge both insets
one day we would need to implement it there, which is even more difficult
than in InsetGraphics
The escaping of symbols read from unicodesymbols was inconsistent, which lead
to wrong replacements (bug 9559). Now the escaping is consistent: unicode_reps
contains unescaped LaTeX commands, the needed escaping for LyX files is
applied in put_cmd_in_ert() and lyx2latex().
Since lyX 2.0 we support to use the in_preamble tag. This allows to support more commands. For an unknown reason I forgot the jss.layout when I updated the other layouts once.
Fileformat change
Old LyX version can cope with degenerated multicolumn cells spanning only one
column, so these should not cause a conversion of the whole formula to ERT.
Such columns are used to set border lines or alignment for single cells.
The math parser could not handle multicolumn grids. This is a problem because
there is no true ERT in math (everything is parsed).
Now multicolumn cells are parsed correctly. The display is also somewhat OK,
but apart from that any multicolumn related UI is missing. Since the file
format change is now done the UI can be added at any later point. The most
important part of bug 396 is now fixed: tex2lyx does not create invalid .lyx
files anymore for formulas containing \multicolumn.
I updated the tex2lyx test cases that produce correct output. tex2lyx does
still produce invalid output for the test cases which are not updated because
of the previous format change.
I don't understand why the string "shadowsize" is not already in the file because when I convert from format 474 to 489 it is added. So why is it not there when I convert from format 474 to 491.
The "save-as" part of the bug is fixed by extending the \textclass tag
such that, if a local layout file is used, its path relative to the
document directory is now stored together with the name. If a relative
path cannot be used, an absolute one is used but, in this case, the
document is not usable on a different platform.
The "copy" part is fixed by introducing a new \origin tag, which is
written when the file is saved. This tag stores the absolute path of
the document directory. If the document is manually copied to a
different location, the local layout file is retrivied by using
\origin (which is only updated on save).
This new tag may prove useful also for locating other files when the
document is manually moved to a different directory.
As in the original implementation the files needed for the layout
(for example, a latex class) had to be in the same directory as the
layout file, this directory has also to be added to TEXINPUTS.
This is the rersult of a discussion on the list. Now all special characters
have meaningful names, and it is clear that the LyX file syntax is not LaTeX.
Most of the changes are related with dictionaries returning views instead of
lists.
xrange -> range (since xrange is gone in python 3)
The code that is special to support both python 2 and 3 is enclosed in a comment
\# Provide support for both python 2 and 3
and
\# End of code to support for both python 2 and 3
And so later it can be removed safely when python 2 is no longer supported.
Both the hyphen and special phrase conversion did not exclude insets which
reference external files. This was wrong since LyX does not replace
\SpecialCharNoPassThru etc for these insets.
Previously, LyX did replace some words with typeset logos, and there was no
way to prvent this except putting them, in ERT (bug #4752). Now we have
special insets for these words, and standard text is left alone.
Thanks to Scott for testing. Command insets do not use InsetText for the
arguments, so users have to write them in LaTeX syntax (this is bug #4595).
Therefore we must leave hyphens alone in these insets.
Previously, consecutive dashes in .lyx files were combined to endash and emdash
in some cases, and in other cases they were output as is. This made the code
complicated, and resulted in inconsitencies ((bug #3647).
Now, a dash in a .lyx file is always a dash in the output, for all flavours.
The special handling is moved to the input side, so that you still get an
endash if you type two hyphens. If needed, this can be changed or made
customizable without the need to update the file format again. Many thanks
for the fruitful mailing list dicsussion, which contributed significantly to
the final version.
The lyx2lyx conversion for format 352 was incomplete: It should have been
added the \use_indices setting, but it relied on the fact that the default in
LyX for missing \use_indices is the same as the old format without that
setting used. However, the default might change in the future, and later
lyx2lyx conversions rely on that setting as well.
trim_eol() assumes that a line always ends either with \n, \r, or \r\n.
This assumption is always valid except for the last line of a document, since it
may miss the trailing newline. LyX does not create such documents, bu they may
result from automatic creation tools, and LyX can read them, so lyx2lyx should
be able to read them as well.
This is mainly needed to reduce the amount of ERT if you convert AMS example
documents with tex2lyx. No GUI support is needed, since \notag is equivalent
to \nonumber.
This is a follow-up of bug #8967. The implementation is self-explaining, the
only part which needs a comment is lyx2lyx: Since a 100% correct solution is
not possible, it has been decided not to switch amsmath off in the forward
conversion if no other ams command than \smash[t] and \smash[b] is used, but
to consider it a bug that older versions do not load amsmath automatically for
these commands. In the backward direction it is easy to keep the document
compilable, so just do that.
Beamer documents do not have a "--Separator--" layout but a
"Separator" one. Also fix a thinko causing the deletion of
"\end_layout" tags in some cases.
