It is not a good idea to call caretPosAndHeight when the caret is in a
paragraph that is not in cached metrics. This can happen when not
using "cursor follows scrollbar".
This commit refactor things a bit so that testing is done in
BufferView.
This bug is not in 2.3.x.
The first step is to move the MathRow cache to BufferView, alongside
coordCache. This was on the todo list anyway, since it allows to let
go the math row information when the math equation is not on the
screen anymore. With the old scheme, it would always remain in memory.
Then, when computing caret size in MathData::metrics, make sure that
the mathrow of the elements that are linearized in the MathRow object
get their caret size information initialized too.
Fixes bug #11587.
Instead of remembering the caret ascent and descent for the cell that contains the cursor, the new code remembers caret dimension for each MathRow object. This makes the code much less fragile (ans slightly smaller).
This fixes caret size issues when the Update::SinglePar flag is active.
Fixes bug #11541.
This is done by declaring unimplemented private copy constructor and
assignment operator.
This breaks compilation in BufferView::textMetrics, which does a copy when
inserting a TextMetrics object in the cache. Some C++11 wizardry I will not
pretend to completely understand saves the day.
See the following page for details:
https://en.cppreference.com/w/cpp/container/map/emplace
This avoids real world bugs like #11512.
The goal of this commit is to simplify the logic in TextMetrics::draw.
Now, rows are repainted depending on their changed() status.
Instead of checking whether rows have been scrolled horizontally at
draw time, the code marks the row as changed when testing for
horizontal scrolling.
To this end a new method TestMetrics::setRowChanged is added, that
searches a row in the text metrics cache and marks it changed if
found.
The old code that remembered the previously scrolled row can now be
removed.
The SinglePar update flags has been a no-op for a long time without
naybody noticing. This means that the current paragraph was
always rebroken and redrawn, even when only moving the cursor around.
Now we only do that when Update::SinglePar has been specified. This
means that there may be cases where update will not be correct
anymore, because this flag has not been specified. These places will
have to be found and fixed.
Update PAINTING_ANALYSIS.
Additionally, correct the cursor by an offset equal to the variation of paragraph size : if change tracking is on, deleting a space may mean that it is just marked as deleted.
Part of bug #11412.
We fill up edited insets into cache when editing inset is triggered, but
this cache is never cleared up for dialogs unassociated with some inset
- thus when e.g. graphics dialog is open for completely new image the
old cache is (wrongly) used.

This is a fixup to 8d8988de4. When a file is loaded and the cursor is
set, it is required to first compute metrics to be able to scroll the
screen correctly.
Fixes bug #11377.
As opposed to modules (from which the framework was initially borrowed),
we only allow one cite engine per document. Thus, we don't need to fiddle
with lists.
Compute a height from current font and current cell vertical
dimensions in MathData::metrics(), because this is where current font
is known.
Introduce BufferView::setCaretAscentDescent to remember this value.
This mechanism is not used for text because Cursor::current_font is
restored by undo, and the caret height would not be changed then. But
in principle it is doable.
The new code is much simpler: what it does is, after redrawing has
been done, to mark the cursor row as changed, so that it will be
repainted on next paint event.
This avoids some crashes at the price of possibly repainting the row
when it was not necessary.
This requires moving the bool that tracks this somewhere that it
is visible from BufferView. It seemed to make sense to put it as
a static member of InsetCitation.
Now people know for sure that I sometimes forget to test that code
actually works before committing. It was so straightforward, what
could possibly go wrong?
The function does not use for now any information from the BufferView
(only lyxrc), but this should eventually change if we want to honor
multi monitor setups properly.
This fixes a regression in e64ea357, where a test has been (badly)
tightened to avoid that two consecutive rows may be redrawn to get rid
of caret ghosts. The test prohibited empty rows from being redrawn.
Moreover, improve the test of cursor boundary to avoid the case where
cursor position is already 0.
Fixes bug #10952.
When the caret is at end of row, if may happen that it is drawn after
the end of the row. In this case caret blinking will not work
properly. This patch extends the row background on the left and right
by Inset::TEXT_TO_INSET_OFFSET. This is only a hack that will not work
if the caret has a ridiculous width like 6.
Additionally, introduce some (disabled) debug code that numbers the
rows on screen by painting order.
Finally, make the code that detects whether the caret was in a given
row more precise (take boundary into account).
Fixes (mostly, see above) bug #10797.
Along the lines suggested by JMarc, we now collect the list of bibfiles
in use in the updateBuffer routines. This actually does simplify the code
quite a bit. See the discussion there for reasons to go this way.
The goal of this commit is to ensure that a processUpdateFlags call
that requires no redraw will not override a previous one that did
require a redraw.
To this end, the semantics of the flag argument is now different: its
value is now OR'ed with a private update_flags_ variable. This
variable is only reset after the buffer view has actually been
redrawn.
A new Update::ForceRedraw flag has been added. It requires a full
redraw but no metrics computation. It is not used in the main code
(yet), but avoids to compute metrics repeatedly in consecutive
processUpdateFlags calls.
The process is now as follows:
- if flags is just None, return immediately, there is nothing to do.
- the Force flag is honored (full metrics computation) and replaced
with ForceDraw.
- the FitCursor flag is honored and removed from the flags.
- the SinglePar update is added if ForceDraw is not in flags and only
the current par has been modified.
The remaining flags are only then added to the BufferView update
flags, and the update strategy is computed for the next paint event.
Finally the dubious call to updateMacros in updateMetrics has been
removed for performance reasons.

The current spelling is not strictly wrong, but flagged as unusual or
historical by some authorities. It is also found fault with many
spell checkers. Thus we decided to move to the more standard "-ible"
form once and for all.
See #10678 for discussion
This part only covers the usage in comments and the like. More to follow.
This will all also all be backported to 2.3.x, for the sake of backwards
compatibility (cherry-picking).
For some reason the existing code only considered the bottom row that
contained the cursor. There is no need for that, and actually it
caused painting problems in nested insets.
Tweak the logic of repaint_caret_row_ a bit: there is no need for
repainting when there is currently no caret on screen.
If the height of the first row of the document has become smaller (for
example when it contains an image which size has shrunk), that the
anchor offset has to be adapted so that there is not a large blank
space at the top of the document.
This patch makes sure that, every time a ParagraphMetrics has its
position set, the inset positions for the insets held by this
paragraph are remembered too.
This is complementary to BufferView::updatePosCache, but I do not have
hard evidence that this is required other than to increase robustness.
It may help in some cases when scrolling the document (scrollbar,
cursor up/down, page up/down).
The trick is to remember in BufferView what has been done at the
previous draw, so that the row that contained the caret can be
repainted if needed.
To this end, add an argument paint_caret to BufferView, although
painting the caret is not the job of the BufferView (at this point).
BufferView::needRepaint will act as an interface with
TextMetrics::drawParagraph to know whether the painting of a given
row should be forced.
Currently everything is done at the top row level, so that, if the
caret is in a large table, the whole table will have to be repainted.
It is not clear yet that this is necessary.
Normally the two stages of drawing are
1/ compute metrics of insets/rows/paragraphs/mathrow...
2/ draw the elements and cache their positions
Now the three stages are
1/ metrics
2/ nodraw: do not draw the elements, but cache their position
3/ draw the elements (and store again their position; it does not
seems to hurt performance).
Revive the NullPainter: this replaces the setDrawingEnabled mechanism
with a painter that does nothing. The advantage is that updatePosCache
(renamed from setPosCache) does not need anymore to be invoked from
the frontend.
updatePosCache (the nodraw stage) is called at the end of
BufferView::updateMetrics.
Traditionally LyX behaves differently when the directive DEVEL_VERSION
is defined at compile time. This covers
* more detailed description of current position in status bar
* the help files are open in read/write mode
* more detailed debug output in the View Source panel
This patch introduces the new function devel-mode-toggle that allows
to use devel mode in stable releases, and vice versa.
The information is saved in the session file. The default is to
disable devel mode.
Remove all traces of DEVEL_VERSION in autoconf and cmake
This commit does a bulk fix of incorrect annotations (comments) at the
end of namespaces.
The commit was generated by initially running clang-format, and then
from the diff of the result extracting the hunks corresponding to
fixes of namespace comments. The changes being applied and all the
results have been manually reviewed. The source code successfully
builds on macOS.
Further details on the steps below, in case they're of interest to
someone else in the future.
1. Checkout a fresh and up to date version of src/
git pull && git checkout -- src && git status src
2. Ensure there's a suitable .clang-format in place, i.e. with options
to fix the comment at the end of namespaces, including:
FixNamespaceComments: true
SpacesBeforeTrailingComments: 1
and that clang-format is >= 5.0.0, by doing e.g.:
clang-format -dump-config | grep Comments:
clang-format --version
3. Apply clang-format to the source:
clang-format -i $(find src -name "*.cpp" -or -name "*.h")
4. Create and filter out hunks related to fixing the namespace
git diff -U0 src > tmp.patch
grepdiff '^} // namespace' --output-matching=hunk tmp.patch > fix_namespace.patch
5. Filter out hunks corresponding to simple fixes into to a separate patch:
pcregrep -M -e '^diff[^\n]+\nindex[^\n]+\n--- [^\n]+\n\+\+\+ [^\n]+\n' \
-e '^@@ -[0-9]+ \+[0-9]+ @@[^\n]*\n-\}[^\n]*\n\+\}[^\n]*\n' \
fix_namespace.patch > fix_namespace_simple.patch
6. Manually review the simple patch and then apply it, after first
restoring the source.
git checkout -- src
patch -p1 < fix_namespace_simple.path
7. Manually review the (simple) changes and then stage the changes
git diff src
git add src
8. Again apply clang-format and filter out hunks related to any
remaining fixes to the namespace, this time filter with more
context. There will be fewer hunks as all the simple cases have
already been handled:
clang-format -i $(find src -name "*.cpp" -or -name "*.h")
git diff src > tmp.patch
grepdiff '^} // namespace' --output-matching=hunk tmp.patch > fix_namespace2.patch
9. Manually review/edit the resulting patch file to remove hunks for files
which need to be dealt with manually, noting the file names and
line numbers. Then restore files to as before applying clang-format
and apply the patch:
git checkout src
patch -p1 < fix_namespace2.patch
10. Manually fix the files noted in the previous step. Stage files,
review changes and commit.
Length::inPixels(MetricsBase const &) and VSpace::inPixels(BufferView
const &) should be moved respectuvely to MetricsBase and BufferView:
core file are not supposed to use GUI files.
Introduce a distinction between being read-only and having the read-only flag. A
buffer is read-only if either it has been externally modified or if it has the
read-only flag.
Up to now Inset::dimension was either a helper function to access
CoordCache, or... something else. This created problems to properly
use it.
In particular, the definition of InsetText::dimension created problems
for child classes. Removing this definition (actually renaming it to
dimensionHelper) allows to streamline the code.
It turns out that Cursor::getFont() does not return a fully realized
font in some cases. This patch uses real_current_font instead, which
seems better anyway.
I suspect that all uses of getFont() should be removed, but this is
not code that I know well.
Fixes bug #10478.
Trying to spare a few cycles by avoiding computing metrics during
screen updates and export. See also 8f86ee74, 72cf7c8f, and e36a8903.
Guillaume will tell whether this also avoids crashing his documents ;)
TexRow now returns a range {start, end} when looking up a particular row.
Reverse-search now selects the whole range instead of simply moving the cursor.
Revert to the strategy used at 8f86ee74 but not using mathedWordList
because it may be still uninitialized at load time. Instead, use the
globalMacros method for getting the same info.
There was a thinko at 8ec91e80, because globalMacros always returns
null for user defined macros.
The math macros system is quite complex. Macros are updated during
metrics calculation, so a missing update is very likely to cause a
crash. This commit tries to assure that they are updated at export
time, which also happens when the table of contents is updated.
Moreover, in order to circumvent a possible missing update, when
a math macro is detected we try to avoid using the sym_ member
of the MacroData class, as it may contain bogus values.
Prevent setRange() from causing a recursive call to scrollTo(). Reduces three
calls of scrollTo() to one call for all scrolling functions of the scroll bar
(e.g. clicking on the arrow, dragging, or clicking somewhere on the scrollbar).
We need to invalidate the BibTeX cache when undoing or redoing. I do
not like having to do it for every undo or redo. We should only have
to do it if we restored or deleted an InsetBibTeX. But there is no
way, so far as I can see, to do it that way. I tried.
Now that Row has a pit() member, it is possible to use it instead of passing an extra pit_type parameter to a function which already has access to a Row.
The old name would be confusing wrt setSelection(), which does additional checks.
This one is a pure acessor, and the more complete methods are
* setSelection(), which avoids empty selections
* clearSelection(), which resets anchor, and sets word selection and mark more to false.
Most of the code should use these two instead of selection(bool), but this is for later.
When document settings are modified, a command
inset-forall Branch inset-toggle asign
is run to open as needed all branches. At the end of the said loop,
the cursor is reset to where it was. However, the cur_after undo
element member is not set because it already had a value.
To make this work as expected, it is necessary in LFUN_INSET_FORALL to
reset the cursor before ending the undo group and to insert a dummy
recordUndo call.
Fixes bug #10097.
Deriving from std::vector to provide helper functions appears a touch
excessive. Use typedef instead and move helper functions to the base class. New
header Toc.h provided to replace forward-declarations.
Remove TocIterator which is useless.
inset-select-all has 3 levels
1. select current cell
2. select all cells
3. select inset from outside.
The second level makes sense for tables (text and math), but not for things like a math fraction.
Introduce a new method Inset::isTable() that allows to detect this case properly and skip level 2.
The context menu of newline insets was completely greyed out if one clicked
at the right of the inset. Thanks Scott for finding this. The fix is to undo
the cursor movement also for insets without settings, but with a context menu.
and record an undo call. This deals with the problem of marking
the Buffer dirty, as well.
Move LFUN_BUFFER_TOGGLE_COMPRESSION and LFUN_BUFFER_TOGGLE_OUTPUT_SYNC
to Buffer.cpp, and add an undo call.
There was a problem with end of paragraph markers. By design, wide insets choose their size without taking in account the marker. This should not lead to unneeded horizontal scrolling.
Part of ticket #9807.
Rewrite the logic completely:
* fix cases where the offset was reset unnecessarily
* fix cases where the row was scrolled too much: as soon as a side of the row is completely visible, there is no need to scroll more.
* fix cases where offset would never reset
This partially reverts commit 0f1fdaaa9, but only redraws the current
row when the value returns by getPos is obviously false. It would also
be possible to check whether the current cursor has all its insets in
cache instead.
A better fix should be found, but this is unfortunately not 2.2 stuff.
Fixes bugs #9796 and #9812.
We already have a CoordCache of insets dimensions. It is not necessary
to store the same information in two places.
Give a name to CoordCache tables types to improve code readability.
Remove ParagraphMetrics::singleWidth, which is not used anymore.
These features are active in DEVEL_VERSION when Debug is set to LATEX.
1. The TexRow information is prepended to the source panel.
2. Clicking on any line in the source triggers reverse search. (This would be an
interesting feature to implement on the user side, but we need a proper LFUN.)
The context menu did no longer work for some insets, since it requires the
cursor to be in front, and editXY() is also used to determine the inset for
the context menu. Now the cursor is corrected if needed.
These were found by cppcheck:
Member variable 'x' is not initialized in the constructor.
The crash #9788 would not have happened if this had been done earlier.
We introduce TocBuilder for building TOCs that take into account both float
insets and their captions.
* Floats without caption are shown with their content.
* Floats with a caption are shown with their caption, but clicking the entry now
correctly moves to the float and not to the caption.
* Subsequent captions produce additional entries in the TOC.
* Figures and subfigures are correctly ordered in the outliner.
* New TOC "senseless" for captions appearing alone (a bit like broken references
are still displayed in the menu and outliner).
* Disable LFUN_CAPTION_INSERT if there is already a caption in a listing
Known issues:
* Inconsistent output for includes located inside floats
* We should record the end of the float in addition of the beginning for a more
accurate cursor -> outliner entry conversion
This solves a few bugs related to the font not being set correctly.
For example, when putting a selection somewhere with
putSelectionAt(), the font was not reset so that before this commit
if the cursor was in an ERT, strange things could happen.
putSelectionAt() is notably used when highlighting the location
corresponding with a LaTeX error (GuiErrorList), when using find,
and when using the spellcheck. I could reproduce the bug using all
three of these.
Bug #9500 is an example of the type of bugs that this commit fixes.
The bug workaround added an extra repaint, which can be very bad when
editing large tables.
It turns out that the bug this is trying to fix is due to the handling
of LFUN_LINE_END in InsetMathGrid. Adding the same code as in
InsetMathNest fixes the problem.
The workaround can therefore be removed.
Currently, insets are notified that the cursor entered or leaved them in Cursor::dispatch. This is not the cas efor lfuns which are handled in BufferView.
Adding the proper code allows to fix many bugs where previews are not updated correctly.
This also reverts cf4f79f8, which was the same fix for a particular case.
Fixes bug #6173.
When editing a preview inset, or math, when we leave the inset, we
should update the preview. This update now happens for screen-up and
screen-down (commonly bound to Page Up and Page Down).
Note that this is only relevant if preview is turned on in
preferences.
This commit probably fixes other issues for any inset that defines
notifyCursorLeaves().
This fixes only part of #6173.
The computation of length on screen depend in particular of the computation of the size of an em. Many places of the code used to rely on the width of the M character, which is not really correct:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Em_%28typography%29
In digital typography, the best value to use is the point size of the font.
* Implement FontMetrics::em(), which returns the value in pixels of the EM unit.
Convert code to use it.
* Introduce Length::inPixel(MetricsBase const &), which takes the textwidth and em information from the MetricsBase object. Convert code to use it.
* Fix several places where Length::inPixel is used without a proper em value.
* add mathed_font_em() helper function. It should eventually be removed like some other functions in MathSupport.
* Add dummy implementation of FontMetrics to tex2lyx for linking purposes.
There are several places in the code where a row is painted with drawing disabled in the painter. The goal is only to recompute inset positions.
Such a case happens in BufferView::checkCursorScrollOffset, as part of the horizontal scrolling patch. Note that this particular piece of code should eventually be removed, since it is a performance problem.
It makes sense to consider that only a real painting of a row should change its status. However, I would not be surprised if this change would break other things.
Fixes: #9388
Rename recordUndoFullDocument to recordUndoFullBuffer.
Separate the notion of recording changes to paragraphs and recording changes in buffer parameters.
Audit every user of recordUndoFullDocument and replace it with either recordUndoBufferParams or recordUndoFullBuffer. Add comments to identify remaining work.
This implement horizontal scrolling of rows to allow editing insets
(math, tabular...) that are larger then the screen. The scrolling happens
as the cursor moves, in order to make sure that the cursor is always visible.
This effectively closes an 11 years old bug.
This feature is the result of the work of Hashini Senaratne as part of
Google Summer of Code 2013. The code has been cleaned-up for inclusion
and remaining bugs have been fixed.
Fixes bug: #1083.
* When doing a redraw with drawing disabled (to set inset positions properly), take horizontal scroll offset in account
* reset horizontal scroll offset when it is smaller than the left margin.
* when drawing a paragraph, do not modify x globally, only for the row that is offset.
The new code should feel a bit more natural. It avoids explicit pixel values for the margins and does not scroll in some cases where it is not necessary.
[This commit is the output of the "horizontal scrolling" GSoC 2013
project, by Hashini Senaratne. The code has been cleaned up, some
variables have been renamed and moved from the Cursor class to
BufferView::Private. This is the base from which I (jmarc) will polish
the feature for landing on master.
Below is the original commit log of Hashini, updated to reflect the
changes that have been done.]
This feature also applicable for other insets; graphics and labels.
This implementation is capable of scrolling a single row when reaching
its content which is beyond the screen limits, using left and right
arrow keys.
The attribute 'horiz_scroll_offset_' introduced in the
BufferView::Private class plays a main role in horizontal scrolling of
the wide rows that grow beyond the screen limits. This attribute
represents by how much pixels the current row that the text cursor
lies in should be get scrolled.
The main logic that is responsible for drawing the scrolled rows is
within the BufferView class, BufferView::checkCursorScrollOffset.
* The main logic is called via BufferView::draw.
* What this does is set the horiz_scroll_offset_ attribute in in order to
show the position that the text cursor lies in.
* To make sure that BufferView::draw gets involved when Update flag is
FitCursor, necessary changes are made in BufferView::processUpdateFlags.
Basically what the logic that used to set the horiz_scroll_offset_
does is,
* The row which the text cursor lies in is identified by a
CursorSlice that points to the beginning of the row. This is the
'rowSlice' variable used in BufferView::checkCursorScrollOffset. Acessors
are added to obtain this variable. Here row objects were not used to
identify the current row, because it appears that row objects can
disappear when doing a decoration update for example. This means that
comparing row pointers is not a good idea, because they can change
without notice.
* Stop calculations of horiz_scroll_offset_ variable, if metrics have not been
computed yet. Otherwise the calls to TextMetrics::parMetrics, calls
redoParagraph and may change the row heigths. Therefore vertical scrolling
feature may get disturbed. This is avoided.
* Using BufferView::::setCurrentRowSlice resets horiz_scroll_offset_
when changing cursor row. This is done in order to prevent unwanted
scrolling that happens when changing the selected row using up and
down arrow keys.
* Recompute inset positions before checking scoll offset of the row, by
painting the row insets with drawing disabled. This is done because the
position of insets is computed within the drawing procedure.
* Current x position of the text cursor is compared with the
horiz_scroll_offset_ value and the other variables like row.width(),
bv.workWidth(). Compute the new horiz_scroll_offset_ value in order
to show where the text cursor lies in. The basics conditions that we
check before recomputing it are, if the text cursor lies rightward to
the current right screen boundary, if the text cursor lies leftward
to the current left screen boundary, if the text cursor lies within
screen boundaries but the length of the row is less than the left
boundary of the screen (this happens when we delete some content of
the row using delete key or backspace key).
* Change update strategy when scrooll offset has changed. This allows to
redraw the row when no drawing was scheduled. By doing so, it was
possible to redraw a wide row when moving to the leftmost position of the
wide row, from the leftmost position of the row below, using the left
arrow key.
In TextMetrics::drawParagraph it is checked whether the current row is
what is drawing now. If it is so, the value used to the x value of the row
for drawing is adapted according to BufferView::horizScrollOffset.
The method used to pass boundary() was fixed to get row when cursor was in
a nested inset. This matter is considered in Cursor::textRow and it is
modified accordingly.
GuiWorkArea::Private::showCursor() is modified to show the cursor position
in a scrolled row.
Fix a crash reported in #7727. This happened because cur.pos() was reset before cur.pit(). In this case, cur.lastpos() will usually be wrong.
Fix bad behaviour when selecting at top level with several paragraphs.
Update documentation.
There are 3 possible actions (in order)
* select current cell
* select all calls of inset
* select the inset from outside (in the containing inset)
This fixes completely #7727.
This variable was introduced to guard against any bad consequence of the then-new right-to-left
languages support. Let's be bold and get rid of it altogether!
Now right to left support is always enabled.
Now the cursor in LyX jumps to the right spot instead of simply the
beginning of the paragraph. This is most useful for branch insets,
for example, which may contain long paragraphs.
If the reverse position corresponds to an inset, its paragraph id
does not follow the main text numbering. Typically, an inset has
only a few paragraph, so that we would jump near the beginning of
the document. In this way we at least jump at the beginning of the
inset.

and marked cases that looked potentially problematic with the

// FIXME THREAD
Many of these definitely are vulnerable to concurrent access, such
as the static variables declared at the start of output_latex.cpp.
Suppose, e.g., we were outputting latex and also displaying the
source of a different document.
I'd appreciate it if others could grep for "FIXME THREAD" and see
if some of these are harmless, or what.

Move the handling of branch-(de)activate(master) to Buffer. This code was moved to Bufferview in [3a03e71c/lyxgit] because a cursor was necessary to call Undo::recordUndoFullDocument(). However, it turns out that the undo code is already prepared to handle an empty cursor (and do nothing in this case).
Therefore we do that and move the branch code to Buffer where it belongs.
Note that there was a bug in the previous code that broke undo support: recordUndo should always be called _before_ doing any change.

When using 'find' and a string is not found, this is not an error or a
surprising event. It is often expected (e.g. after searching through
the whole document for a certain string eventually you will get this
message). The exclamation mark should be reserved for messages that
are unexpected or that need extra attention, such as errors.
